Q & A with the newlyweds!

I straight up stole the below meme from Dooce. Just in case there’s anything left that ya’ll would like to know about John and I’s relationship, ad nauseum.

What are your middle names?

My middle name is Ann, and John’s is Alan. So yes, we now have the exact same initials. Think of all the monogrammed towels!

How long have you been together?

We’ve been together since September of 2007, although one could argue that our love affair was twenty years in the making. We were married last November. Two months this weekend. Like Obama, we’re in our first 100 days.

How long did you know each other before you started dating?

I met John in 1986 and we immediately started dating. We worked together as well and I have a lot of fond memories of that time in my life. We were very young and drifted apart but upon reuniting two years ago, we’ve never been apart, but never really “dated” either.

Who asked whom out?

This is kind of weird. No one asked anyone out. We just became us. It was like we both just knew. I’m talking about the second time around, of course.

How old are each of you?

I just turned 41 two weeks ago, and Johnny is 43. See? Life really does begin at 40.

Whose siblings do you see the most?

Johnny is an only child and I have three brothers who all reside out of state.

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?

Our current one. I recently moved here to start my new life with John and his daughters. I left my job, my friends and my family. I’m adjusting to children as well as a new location and a lesser than ideal home. By ‘lesser than ideal”, I mean dilapidated. It’s been a frustrating challenge for both of us. I haven’t a job or any friends and I feel very alone and tend to take it out on Johnny at the end of the day. We’re working through it though and I have no doubt that one day we’ll look back on this transition and laugh. Or barf.

Did you go to the same school?

We both attended the University of Tennessee.

Are you from the same home town?

No. Johnny grew up in Knoxville, TN and I grew up three hours west, in Nashville.

Who is smarter?

Hands down, Johnny. I am often stunned by how his mind works. He has a vast knowledge of a wide variety of subjects; music, history and politics. Don’t get him started on sports, either. He’s a whiz at trivia and has an amazing memory for lyrics. In fact, his iPhone has almost gone up his butt because he is constantly whipping it out to once again prove me wrong.

Who is the most sensitive?

I suppose I am. He’s a sensitive guy but I tend to take things more personally.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?

We haven’t done a lot of dining out since my arrival. We live out in the country and by the time Johnny gets home from work, we’re too tired to turn around and venture back out. However, we both enjoy a lovely little Thai place called ‘Lemongrass’ on occasion.

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?

Charleston, SC – we went there for a wedding in November of 2007. I love to travel though and am looking forward to dragging Johnny overseas one day.

Who has the craziest exes?

Ya’ll read this blog. Next question. Thank you.

Who has the worst temper?

ME. John has learned great patience through fatherhood, I imagine. Me, notsomuch. Like my Father, I am quick to flare and spout off with flaming nonsense, only to be sorry and completely mortified minutes later. GOOD TIMES.

Who does the cooking?

We both do. We enjoy cooking and call it our “kitchen dance”. Yeah, I know… you just threw up in your mouth a little.

Who is the neat-freak?

Put it this way, IT IS NOT JOHN.

Who is more stubborn?

Again, me. Through patience and having been previously married, John has learned the great art of compromise and to me, it’s just another word for “Jen is not getting her way”. I’m working on it though. Baby steps, people.

Who hogs the bed?

Neither one of us really hogs the bed, but if you know me in real life you know that I am a bit of a “bed pig”. It’s not that I hog the bed, it’s just like I want to sleep exactly where you are. As in, ON TOP OF YOU. Suzann, Jessica and Meredith can attest to that. Road trips and camping adventures are perfect times to snuggle, no?

Who wakes up earlier?

Me. Johnny is not a morning person. He thinks 6am is the middle of the night.

Where was your first date?

Um, the first time around he took me to see Platoon. How romantic! This time around we reunited in Nashville for an entire weekend. We didn’t need a first date because we knew we were going to end up.

Who is more jealous?

Me. Next question.

How long did it take to get serious?

We were serious from the very first phone call. Johnny said he knew that night we would end up getting married but I was harder to convince. It seemed unbelievable, yet here we are. As usual, he was right.

Who eats more?

That’s a tough one. I eat more often but John will eat more at one sitting.

Who does the laundry?

Right now I’m doing the majority of it as I do not have a damn job.

Who’s better with the computer?

John’s head will one day explode when he has to ask me for the millionth time, ‘IS YOUR CAPS LOCK BUTTON ON”!?!?!?

Who drives when you are together?

It’s a toss up, but it’s mostly John. I never know where we’re going.
